Every good band has to have a solid foundation, and for the upcoming studio album, I found just the guy for the job. Perrin Grace is an outstanding young bassist who is moving to New York City very soon to be a part of the NY jazz scene. I thought I'd take the opportunity to record with him this summer before he hits the big time!
No, that's not a big violin, folks. It's a double bass, and it serves as the foundation for all of the chords and harmonies that we hear in music. Perrin has worked with all sorts of artists in just about every style of music you can imagine. Perrin is also a great writer and has written and recorded his own original compositions. He plays with Addison Frei and Matt Young (also featured on this record) with the AMP Trio. I love playing with Perrin because he's so solid, so soulful, and his bass playing conveys the joy that he gets out of playing it.
But there's another reason that I like playing with Perrin: his attitude and willingness. I have never had a bad experience playing with Perrin, because he is dedicated to contributing to the music and is also just a really neat guy.
